Happy Valentines Day everyone!
Earlier this week, Mr. A and I escaped the daily grind by having dinner my favourite restaurant in Sydney, Signorelli Gastronomia.
This authentic Italian trattoria plus deli is run and served by Italians who seriously know their food and drink. It has its own deli, cheese room, and separate white wine and red wine rooms (pictures below the food)! It even runs cooking classes.
We ordered a cheese platter to share, which involved being taken by our waiter to the (cold) cheese room where he explained each of the 10 or so cheeses, followed by us selecting four cheeses.
We also ordered the Chorizo, red onion, rocket, and provolone pizza. Pizza was great as usual, but since we last visited the menu had been changed. Signorelli previously had more unusual combinations that couldn’t be found anywhere else in Sydney, but the current Summer menu had standard gourmet pizzas.
Lucky for us, Signorelli had a special Valentines Day dessert menu, the Desiderio D’Amore, a shared wild strawberry mousse on gluten free almond milk sponge, rose blossom jam, subtle liquorice crumble, created by chef Vincent Gaden, who we are told was featured in the popular TV series Masterchef.
The dessert came with 2 glasses of Brachetto. Forgive me for being uncultured, but I must admit I had not heard of Brachetto before this. Our waiter explained it was an Italian sweet wine similar to pink moscato and was light, refreshing and not overly sweet. He was absolutely right, it was all those things plus delicious!
