Those of you who read my last post will be relieved to hear that Huskisson (in Jervis Bay) actually has some very good eats.
Tucked away off the main Owen St, we came across The Waterhouse the day we arrived at Jervis Bay, while picking up our keys for the house we had rented for the Easter long weekend. On seeing the cute decor and having a look at the reasonably priced menu with what looked like yummy food (especially desserts), we couldn’t resist and booked a table for 6 for that night.
It was lucky that we had booked in advance as the restaurant was full! And for good reason. The restaurant looked like it used to be a house, so we walked in through the “front yard”, through a narrow path lit up by fairy lights and into the front door. The interiors had a wooden, rustic look, with the wooden tables and chairs (unfortunately I forgot to take a photo of the inside!).
I had the vegetarian pizza, which was only 20cm across and not that filling (I would recommend a main for a full stomach), but was very tasty. I swapped slices with the other pizza lovers on the table and sampled the spicy chorizo salami and marinated prawn pizza and the one on the specials menu, the salami, buffalo mozzarella and tomato pizza. All the pizzas were fresh, with thin bases, truly gourmet pizzas.
(The other) Miss E’s Atlantic salmon fillet with sweet corn, avocado, black bean& tomato salsa with lime looked delicious, and the others ordered the slow cooked lamb shoulder with blue lentils & apple relish, and the gnocchi with rocket, tomato, speck & chilli sauce.
The upside of the smaller sized pizza was that I had room for dessert! All the desserts on the menu looked amazing!!! I’m not usually a dessert person but the options looked light and fresh, just how I like my desserts. In fact, I had chosen my dessert before my main!
I got the dessert off the specials menu, the poached pear with caramel sauce and cream, which was warm and slightly (not too sweet) caramelised on the outside and cool, refreshing and fresh on the inside. We picked at eachother’s desserts and they were all nice. I especially loved Miss M’s lemongrass & coconut pannacotta with macerated pineapple. The pannacotta was AMAZING, tart and light with tropical Thai flavours – the best panacotta I’ve ever had!!! The grainy photo (due to the lighting in the restaurant) is no reflection of the dessert – trust me, try it!
The Waterhouse was my fave restaurant of our girls’ getaway and I would go back next time I’m in Jervis Bay.
